Taking Root in Bootle, a network of community gardeners, are working with other organisations across south Sefton and north Liverpool to create a network of wildflower meadows, thanks to a grant from the Liverpool City Region’s Community Environment Fund.

The Community Environment Fund was established last year by Metro Mayor Steve Rotheram to improve the environment of the Liverpool City Region and promote community involvement in ‘green’ projects.
It is hoped that the meadows should be in bloom for the first time later in the summer when a wildflower trail map will be available to guide people around all of the wildflower sites.
Sefton Council supports many community groups like Taking Root, who regularly carry out clean ups across Sefton’s outdoor spaces and help to develop community areas in parks and greenspaces, as well as more urban areas with street planting for instance.
