Can you help someone with dementia keep doing the things they love?

Alzheimer’s Society will be holding two drop-in volunteer recruitment events for its new service called Side by Side, which will provide one-to-one volunteers for people living with dementia to help them stay active and involved in their communities. This has replaced the Befriending service.

The first event is at Linacre Bridge Community Hub, 546 Stanley Road Bootle, L20 5DW on Tuesday 30th January, 10am-12.30pm. While the second is at The Hope Centre, Aintree Lane, Liverpool, L10 2JD on Thursday 8th February 2018, 10am-12noon.

Alzheimer’s Society says: “People living in Sefton are waiting for you. So whether you’re a social butterfly, shopaholic or nature lover, we need volunteers like you.”

The information event is an informal drop-in opportunity for members of the public to come and find out about the different types of volunteering they can get involved in. Side by Side

Both staff and some of the society’s current volunteers will be on hand to answer any questions to help you to decide if volunteering is for you or not.

Side by Side is a new free service that links a volunteer to someone living with dementia to help them get out and about and continue enjoying the activities they love. From joining a local club, going to the football, or just going for a stroll in the park, the society wants people with dementia to live the lives they want and deserve, and Side by Side volunteers can help make this possible.

You can volunteer on weekdays, evenings and weekends at various times, either in person or over the phone – so it’s a flexible way to give your time and really make a huge difference to someone’s life.
