Dementia friendly film screening

The Plaza Cinema in Waterloo is showing its next Dementia Friendly Film Screening on Thursday 19 October.

The community cinema is showing Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, the film that established Marilyn Monroe’s name and her career in Hollywood, with doors opening at 1.30pm and the film starting at 2pm.

Christine Physick from the Plaza says: “As always, we will take a short break for refreshments, included in the price, and aim to finish the screening around 4.00pm.

“Low level lighting will be maintained throughout the auditorium during the screening, and the film will be played at a reduced volume.”

STORYLINE: Lorelei Lee (Marilyn Monroe) is a beautiful showgirl engaged to be married to the wealthy Gus Esmond (Tommy Noonan), much to the disapproval of Gus’ rich father, Esmond Sr., who thinks that Lorelei is just after his money. When Lorelei goes on a cruise accompanied only by her best friend, Dorothy Shaw (Jane Russell), Esmond Sr. hires Ernie Malone (Elliott Reid), a private detective, to follow her and report any questionable behavior that would disqualify her from the marriage.
